Athlone TY Students to Represent Ireland at 'F1 in Schools' World Finals in Abu Dhabi
Vintius Racing, an ‘F1 in Schools’ team based out of Marist College Athlone, achieved second place in their National Finals and have qualified for the F1 in Schools World Finals in Abu Dhabi this November. “Our team name comes from the Celtic God of wind” says Michael Munnelly, the Graphic Designer of Vintius racing. This reflects both our Irish heritage and our goal to make a fast and powerful car. The other team members include Conor McNamara (Team Manager), Eoghan Carroll (Design Engineer), Alexander Farrell (Manufacturing Engineer), Brian O’ Hara Duggan (Project Manager) and Callum McKnight (Marketing manager).
For those of you who aren’t aware, ‘F1 in Schools’ is an international STEM challenge where teams of students aged 9 to 19 use CAD 3D modelling software to design miniature formula one cars. The cars are analysed, manufactured and rigorously tested in hopes to design the world’s fastest ‘F1 in Schools’ car. Another feature of the project is raising sponsorship money from local businesses to pay for your team expenses.
The Irish national finals were held on April 5th last in TU Dublin and, each year, the three winning teams qualify for the World Finals.
“If you are in secondary school have any interest in technology or DCG, the ‘F1 in Schools’ competition can help prepare you for a future career” recommends Eoghan Carroll, the Design Engineer. “This project has improved many of my skills, such as presenting a project and CAD”.
Everyone here at TheEffect.Net would like to wish Vintius Racing the very best of luck at the World Finals in November and hopefully they can bring home the gold for Ireland!
