Ireland’s newest mobile network, GoMo, (which is working of eir’s mobile network) launches today for just €9.99 a month and offers all calls, texts and 80GB of 4G data. You also get 10GB of roaming data in the EU. This is an extremely aggressive play from eir’s new owner, Xavier Niel, and should hopefully make the other big operators such as Vodafone and Three re-evaluate their own offerings. The press release also states “GoMo customers will benefit from (eir’s) 99% population coverage and over 97% 4G coverage.”

Now, with such an aggressive price points, sacrifices had to be made so, as an MVNO, or Mobile Virtual Network Operator, there will be no physical retail stores for the new network and they won’t be offering any phones either.

You simple go to GoMo.ie and order your new SIM or change your current number over to one of the new sims and it will be couriered out to you. There’s also a €10 connection charge to join the network. If you have any issues, you can contact a dedicated webchat team, based in Limerick, who are available seven days a week to answer any queries.

At the official launch today, we were told that the first 100,000 customers on the new network will lock in the €9.99/month price for life, making us wonder what happens the price for those who don’t sign up in time. We’ve reach out to a GoMo spokesperson so we’ll see what they say.
