In a bid to stay relevant and up to date, Facebook have added hashtag support to their desktop site with mobile being added soon.

“To date, there has not been a simple way to see the larger view of what’s happening or what people are talking about,” Greg Lindley wrote on their official blog. “To bring these conversations more to the forefront, we will be rolling out a series of features that surface some of the interesting discussions people are having about public events, people, and topics. As a first step, we are beginning to roll out hashtags on Facebook.”

Hashtags are now clickable on the site, much like twitter.

#GodHelpUs

Will the addition of hashtags to this social network bring people back from the ‘other’ social network that is so infamous for it’s use of the symbol? Only time will tell. Prepare for the hashtag onslaught once word of this gets out. #GodHelpUs

On a side note, the hashtag used to be called an octotroph. Now go hashtag that!
