Microsoft announced this week that their upcoming update for Windows 8 – Windows 8.1 – will be available on October 18th.
The update will be available to existing Windows 8 users via the Windows Store on October 17th while anyone looking to start from scratch will have to buy a boxed or digital copy on the 18th.
The update brings a number of improvements such as dynamic lock screen, new live tiles and the ability to boot straight to the traditional desktop.

Windows 8.1 also broadens the spec requirements for smaller form factors, so we can expect to see 7-9 inch Windows 8.1 tablets just in time for Christmas.
