It’s no secret that Microsoft is working on Windows Phone 8.1 which is set to improve their mobile operating system vastly.
But one feature that sticks out is that Microsoft seem to be working on a personal voice assistant named Cortana, after the super clever AI in the Halo universe.
Cortana will go head to head with Google Now and Apple’s Siri voice assistant.

Cortana will apparently learn and adapt the more you use it, and according to sources known to Mary Jo Foley at ZDNet say that Cortana will be more than just an app and more of a ‘shell’:

Cortana will be more than just an app that lets users interact with their phones more naturally using voice commands. Cortana is core to the makeover of the entire “shell” — the core services and experience — of the future versions of Windows Phone, Windows and the Xbox One operating systems, from what I’ve heard from my contacts.

Cortana will be powered by Bing’s Satori system but current reports don’t peg it to be ready for release until 2014-2016, so you’ll have to wait for your very own UNSC AI in your pocket.
