I’m originally from a Gaeltacht area, but yet my Irish is lacking. There are times where I would like to speak and read our native language, especially when you hear and see other cultures reading and speaking theirs. This is where Foras na Gaeilge are coming in, especially in regards to reading in Irish. To help promote leabhar.ie, they are giving someone a chance to win a 1,000euro shopping spree! How I hear you ask? Well, you’ll have to read below to find out! 😛
Foras na Gaeilge is promoting reading in Irish and Irish language book sales with an innovative online and social media marketing campaign which includes the launch of a new website www.leabhar.ie as well as a social media campaign concentrating primarily on Facebook and Twitter. The campaign is part of Foras na Gaeilge’s ongoing support of the Irish language publishing industry and seeks to highlight the impressive range of Irish language titles currently available as well as recently published titles including the 10 books shortlisted for Leabhair na Bliana.
There are currently almost 200,000 Facebook users who profess to be able to speak and read as Gaeilge and the campaign is reaching out to them by incentivising them to share details of their favourite Irish language book with their online friends and followers. Anyone who participates in the promotion will be entered into a draw to win a €1000 shopping spree and an overnight stay in Dublin over the Christmas sales. They will also receive copies of the 10 books shortlisted for the recent Leabhair na Bliana awards (Irish Language Book Awards).
Commenting on the campaign, Seán Ó Coinn, Deputy CEO of Foras na Gaeilge said:,
“We believe that social media and online marketing offer great opportunities to reach out directly to people who have already expressed an interest in the Irish language. By directly targeting individuals who have expressed an interest in the language, even if they can only manage a “cúpla focal”, we can then encourage them to communicate with their peers and friends thereby spreading the word about the great range of Irish language publications currently on sale for all levels of fluency.”
All those interested in winning an expenses-paid trip to the Christmas sales in Dublin can enter on www.leabhar.ie/win by liking the page and posting the name of their favourite Irish language book. They can also enter by tweeting the name of their favourite Irish language book and including a hash tag for leabharie. #leabharie.
