Launched in 2007, Microsoft’s cloud storage solution SkyDrive will soon come to be known as OneDrive.

Following a legal dispute with BSkyB, owners of the Sky TV service, Microsoft committed to change the name within a reasonable period of time, which is just over six months now.

In a blog post on the SkyDrive Blog (now called the OneDrive blog), Microsoft say that current SkyDrive users won’t be affected by the name change and can continue to use the service as they do now.

“Of course, changing the name of a product as loved as SkyDrive wasn’t easy” says Ryan Gavin on the blog post and goes on to explain the reasoning behind the name choice: “Why OneDrive? We know that increasingly you will have many devices in your life, but you really want only one place for your most important stuff …You want OneDrive for everything in your life.”
