The super-popular taxi app Hailo is planning to introduce tandem bicycles for customers in Dublin.
All of the bikes will be driven by licensed taxi drivers and you can still pay as normal. They’ll even knock off 50% of the fare if you help the driver to pedal.
Hailo’s head of two-wheel tech commented, “We’ve always been a mobile business, and we’re constantly looking for ways to help our customers get around. Just like with regular Hailo, passengers pay by card, hop on and off the bike and get receipts emailed automatically to them.”

Hailo, Ireland’s leading smartphone taxi app, today introduced its latest innovation to make getting around European cities easier than ever – Tandem Taxi Bikes.
Launched today in London, with plans for a Dublin launch imminent, the service is designed to deal with busy streets in capital cities. Passengers simply use the Hailo app to request a Tandem Taxi Bike, and can watch a Hailo branded ‘bicycle made for two’ arrive live on their phone screen.
All of Hailo’s tandem taxis will be ridden by fully licensed taxi drivers. As well as knowing all streets within a radius of 5 miles of O’Connell Street, Hailo’s Tandem fleet are required to know all the cycle paths, all the bike shops and how to deal with chafing of the thigh.
The bikes have been specially adapted to the rigours of the capital city cycling, including GPS powered by dynamo and a turning circle of just six inches.
Hailo’s head of two-wheel tech commented, “We’ve always been a mobile business, and we’re constantly looking for ways to help our customers get around. Just like with regular Hailo, passengers pay by card, hop on and off the bike and get receipts emailed automatically to them. If the rider is prepared to help pedal along, then 50% is knocked off their fare.”
Ok so this is obviously an April Fools joke, but it’s a good one to be fair! You’ve got to admire the commitment.
