Currently there aren’t really any good offers for students when it comes to broadband offerings. You usually have to get some sort of fixed line (either cable or telecom based) and a long term contract in order to get any sort of speed or capacity, which really isn’t ideal.

Thankfully Meteor and HEAnet realised this and have a series of offers specifically for students. There are 2 offerings, both offer 4G network speeds (and ping time) and have the option of the mifi connectivity, so any Wifi devices can hook up to it. For 9.99 a month you can get 25gb and for 19.99 a month you can get 50gb.

Mobile Broadband Service with Mi-Fi device – €9.99 incl. VAT

  • Access to 4G network (as well as 3G and 2G)
  • 25GB of data
  • 4G Mi-Fi Device (Huawei E5372) for €49
  • 6 month minimum contract

Mobile Broadband Service with Mi-Fi device – €19.99 incl. VAT

  • Access to 4G network (as well as 3G and 2G)
  • 50GB of data per month
  • 4G Mi-Fi Device (Huawei E5372) for €49
  • 6 month minimum contract

For full details on these, and other offers, see here: http://meteor.ie/student/

These are great offers, but do remember what you’ll be doing with that data. For example, 1 hour of HD Netflix (or any other HD streaming service) uses approx. 3gb of your data (and if you go to UltraHD like on the PS4 / PS3, that increases to 7gb an hour)! So on Netflix alone, on the 50gb offering, you would be maxing that out by watching HD content  it for about 30mins a day. There are ways to control it and reduce the quality of the stream, and in tow the data usage, see HERE for how to control how much data Netflix uses.Huawei e5372 Front
