The CEO of Polyphony Digital (Kazunori Yamauchi) when speaking in an interview with GamesTM announced that the next edition in PlayStation’s #1 driving franchise ‘Gran Turismo‘ will be coming to PS4 in 2015 or 2016.
“I’d put a bet on clubs or open world driving coming to Gran Turismo”
It looks like in GT7 we’re going to see a lot more content as Kazunori wants to do everything in GT7 that Polyphony couldn’t get done in GT6 while bringing it up to date for 2015/2016, giving players what they expect from a modern driving game. I’d put a bet on clubs or open world driving coming to Gran Turismo personally. However, we won’t be seeing a prologue edition this time as previously announced as the team is concentrating on bringing more ‘premium cars’ to GT7. As in previous Gran Turismo games, ‘premium cars’ feature detailed in-car views.
In the interview, he claimed that the game will be much easier to develop this time around thanks to the PS4’s upgraded specs saying:
Everything will be running naturally, PS3 was much, much more difficult. The high quality of data that we have being rendered on the PS4 I think is going to make an incredible difference.
Gran Turismo is one of PlayStation’s biggest selling franchises selling over 70,000,000 copies so far on PlayStation. Sales of the franchise have continued to stay strong but Gran Turismo 6 had a dip in sales with 3 million fewer copies sold (compared to Gran Turismo 5) in it’s opening month.
