So here it is. Our first look at Charlie Cox in Marvel’s Daredevil, which is scheduled to premier in 2015 only on Netflix.
Two images were released; in the first image (above) we see the red glasses wearing Matt Murdock (Cox). For those new to Daredevil, the glasses are worn as a result of being blinded as a boy.
The second image gives our first look at the superhero suited up and ready to fight crime. According to Marvel, that costume is inspired by an original “Daredevil” sketch. While new to the passing Daredevil fan, the outfit will look familiar to the comic’s aficionados as it’s inspired by the “Daredevil: Man Without Fear” comic series by Frank Miller and John Romita, Jr.
Netflix also released the official synopsis of the show, featuring Marvel’s “Man Without Fear.”
“‘Marvel’s Daredevil’ is a live action series that follows the journey of attorney Matt Murdock, who in a tragic accident was blinded as a boy but imbued with extraordinary senses,” it read. “Murdock sets up practice in his old neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, New York where he now fights against injustice as a respected lawyer by day and masked vigilante at night.”
Earlier in the day, Marvel also released concept art for the show from comic legend Joe Quesada.
Marvel also confirmed Ayelet Zurer (“Vanessa Marianna”), Vondie Curtis Hall (“Ben Urich”), Bob Gunton (“Leland Owlsley”) and Toby Leonard Moore (“Wesley”). These four stars join Charlie Cox (“Matt Murdock”), Deborah Ann Woll (“Karen Page”), Elden Henson (“Foggy Nelson”), with Rosario Dawson (who role was revealed as “Claire Temple”) and Vincent D’Onofrio (“Wilson Fisk”) in the critically-lauded cast for the 13-episode series set to debut in 2015.
Daredevil, along with three other series starring Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage, will later combine into a special miniseries called The Defenders, all of which are being created solely for Netflix.
2015 can’t get here quick enough for me but what do you think? Is this what you were expecting from the “man without fear”? Is it too ninja and not enough devil?
