It is clear that this patch addresses a multitude of previous problems players have witnessed in Assassin’s Creed: Unity. The reason why the patch is as big as 6.7GB is due to Ubisoft having to replace sections of the Paris map that were experiencing frame-rate issues. The problem facing Xbox One owners with the 40GB patch size might be as a result of the patch downloading process. Players who applied Patch 3 will see Patch 4 as being 40GB in size and is replacing the entire game instead of that the patch addresses. This was addressed on the Assassin’s Creed: Unity live updates website, where Ubisoft formally apologised for this issue:
“This is obviously not the expected behaviour, and we apologise that many of you will have to wait longer than expected to complete this download. This issue isn’t causing any other problems and once the download is completed players will have the most-up-to-date and fully patched version of Assassin’s Creed Unity.”
This statement also states that the download size was unintentional and that Ubisoft are currently working with Microsoft to resolve the problem. However, there has been no date as to when it will be rectified. Instead, Ubisoft suggested that those who own the disc version of AC: Unity to uninstall and reinstall the game. This should bring Patch 4 download size down to 6.7GB.
Patch 4 was released this on PS4 and Xbox One. The patch will be available on PC later this week.
