From today Sky Store will rollout its Buy & Keep service to everyone in the UK and Ireland. Sky Store is the only service where customers can get a movie straight to their TV, stream or download it to their mobile, tablet and laptop and receive the DVD direct to their home a few days later which is a pretty impressive ‘all-encompassing’ set-up in comparison to some of its competitors.
Now Sky customers and anyone accessing Skystore.com or the new Sky Store app will be able to Buy & Keep the latest blockbusters to stream or download on their compatible mobile, tablet and laptop. Non-Sky TV customers in Ireland can watch on their main TV via a Roku® box (www.roku.com).
Ann-Marie MacKay, Director of Products & Customer Growth, Sky Ireland said, “People want the simplest and most convenient way to buy and watch the movies they love, which is why it’s great news that from today Buy & Keep will be available to everyone and across multiple devices. Sky Store offers the complete service – straight to your TV, across your devices and you get the DVD in the post too.”
“Thousands of Sky Store titles are rented and bought each week in Ireland, with action films and thrillers proving particularly popular so far this year, including The Equalizer, starring Academy Awards winner Denzel Washington, the latest instalment in the huge science fiction adventure series The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and David Fincher’s psychological thriller Gone Girl, making up the top three.”
Watching across devices will be pretty straighforward thanks to a “follow me” function, which will allow Sky Store customers to start watching a movie on one of their registered devices, pause and then resume watching it on another registered device so long as they are connected to the internet. You can register up to four devices and any movie can be streamed to two devices simultaneously.
On Android devices, customers will be able to browse, watch and buy while on iOS devices the Sky Store Player App will enable them to browse and watch movies they have bought previously via their TV or on skystore.com.
For existing Buy & Keep customers who have already used the service on their Sky+HD box, all of the movies they have bought will automatically appear in My Library in the app, ready to stream or download. Sky customers who now Buy & Keep on mobile devices can also chose to send the movie to their Sky+ HD box as well.
With the latest movies direct from the cinema being added every week, movie fans can choose from blockbusters like The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies and Paddington, as well as all-time classics like Avatar, Back to the Future or Wizard of Oz. New releases are €16.99 and catalogue favourites are €9.99. Most Buy & Keep movies are also available on early release, which means they are available on Sky Store before the DVD is available to buy in the shops.
Sky Store Buy & Keep has been a huge hit with Sky customers since its launch in April 2014, becoming a major digital retailer across the UK & Ireland in just 12 months. Irish-produced films have been big hits on Sky Store. Mrs. Brown’s Boys D’Movie was the most downloaded Sky Store title in Ireland over the last six months, with thousands of customers renting or buying Brendan O’Carroll’s ever popular comedy. And the critically acclaimed Irish productions The Stag and Calvary were both in Ireland’s top five weekly downloads for the period after they were first released on the service.
