Nokia are re-entering the smartphone market here in Ireland next week, August 2nd, with the launch of the Android-powered Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 along with the reincarnation of the much loved Nokia 3310.

HMD Global, the new owners of the Nokia brand, have aggressively priced these new handsets allowing them to take a bite out of the low to mid-tier smartphone market, one which is dominated by the likes of Samsung and Huawei. These new handsets were officially unveiled back at MWC 2017 in Barcelona and will finally arrive on Irish shores next Wednesday.

The Nokia 6, the highest-specced of the bunch, has a 5.5″ full HD screen with an aluminium body, dual speakers and is powered by the Snapdragon 430 processor. It will be available for purchase in Ireland from August 2nd, costing €249.

The slightly smaller Nokia 5 has a 720p display, an 8MP selfie camera and is also powered by the same Qualcomm processor as the Nokia 6. It will cost €209 and will be available here from August 16th.

The entry level smartphone in the range, the Nokia 3, has a 5″  display and 8MP wide aperture cameras front and back. It will go on sale on August 2nd priced at €149.

The most intriguing of all the phones though has to be the re-imagined Nokia 3310 which, as phones go nowadays, can be seen as a throwaway/emergency back up phone. It has a crazy stand by time of a month and talk time of 22 hours and will cost just €59.

The Nokia 6 & Nokia 5 will be available exclusively in Ireland with Three and the Nokia 3 will be available from Three, Vodafone, Eir & Carphone Warehouse. The Nokia 3310 will be available from Vodafone, Eir & Carphone Warehouse.

There’s also rumours about that HMD Global are set to launch their very own flagship device, the Nokia 8, on August 16th, to take on the likes of the Samsung S8, HTC U11 and Sony Xperia XZ Premium. It’s rumoured to have a 5,3″ QHD dispay, dual rear camera set up and Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor. We’ll share more info on this alleged announcement once we have it.

Below is the official press release for the new handsets which has more info on their launch.
