HANDS ON PREVIEW: Google Announce Pixel 3a & 3a XL - Available in Ireland tonight!
Google has just unveiled two brand new handsets, the Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL at their annual I/O conference in San Francisco. Admittedly, multiple leaks tipped us off to their imminent arrival but it’s nice to see them officially unveiled. What’s even nicer is that they’re both available to purchase right now on the Irish Google Store with prices starting at €399 for the Pixel 3a and €479 for the Pixel 3a XL.
The handsets will also be making their way exclusively to Vodafone Ireland, both online and in-store, later this month with their even more impressive price points below:
The devices will be available in three colours, Just Black, Clearly White and Purple-ish with the purple version available exclusively on the Google Store.
The Pixel 3a comes with a 5.6″ OLED HDR display, and the 3a XL will have a larger 6″ OLED HDR display. Both devices will have 4GB of RAM, a Snapdragon 670 processor, stereo speakers, the much lauded 12.2-megapixel rear camera, which is the same camera found on the back of the Pixel 3 and 3 XL, an 8-megapixel selfie camera and 64GB of storage.
When it comes to battery capacity, the Pixel 3a will have a 3000mAh battery whilst the Pixel 3a XL will have an understandably larger 3700mAh battery.
We’ve been playing with the Pixel 3a XL for a few days now and we’re very impressed so far with the vast majority with what’s on offer. Even though its plastic build quality isn’t quite up there with its more expensive glass and metal siblings and we do miss the ability to wireless charge the device, the battery, and more so the camera, are performing very well so far.
This was to be expected though given the camera is identical to one found in the Pixel 3 and 3 XL and Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon processors are getting better and better at conserving battery.
The Pixel 3 and 3 XL’s highly praised Night Sight mode is also available on these new entry level handsets so you can be sure to be able to capture fantastic low light shots, even at the impressive price points these handsets are going on sale for. You’ll also get Google’s HDR+ technology with features like Portrait Mode and Super Res Zoom available in the camera app as well.
Below are some sample shots taken with the Pixel 3a XL.
The new handsets also come with the Pixel 3/3 XL’s squeezable ‘Active Edge’ feature to launch Google Assistant simply by squeezing the bottom half of the phone and will come with an 18-watt charger so you get up to seven hours of battery life on a 15-minute charge and up to 30 hours on a full charge.
Be sure to keep an eye on TheEffect.Net as we’ll have our full review of the new Google Pixel 3a XL live on the site very soon.
