Amazon has just announced the newest member to their Echo line of devices —Echo Show 5. This new compact smart video display and conferencing device packs a 5.5″ display with a HD camera and built-in camera shutter along with the usual Amaxon Alexa tricks you’ve come to expect. Like other Amazon Echo devices, you’ll be able to stream music from the likes of Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, TuneIn.

You’ll also be able to watch Prime Video content on the new device but not sure who’d actually want to given it’s small screen size. BBC, RTE NEws and Reuters will also show short news clips to help you see what’s going on around the world and a new integration with WikiHow that’s ‘coming soon’ will allow you to access hundreds of how-to videos by voice.

You can also view your smart home camera feed and thermostats, access recently used devices, and manage smart devices by group. You’ll be able to set a nighttime routine that turns off your bedroom lamp and starts playing sleep sounds for relaxation and, when your alarm goes off in the morning, you can wake up to an ‘Alexa Sunrise’ where the screen on the device (and other Echo Show devices) will naturally brighten and display a sunrise animation before your alarm goes off.

When it comes to privacy, the new Echo Show 5 includes a microphone/camera off button that electronically disconnects both the microphone and camera, and a clear visual indicator that shows when audio or video is streaming to the cloud. The new Echo Show 5 also has a built-in camera shutter so now you can cover the on-board camera, while still being able to talk to Alexa.

Pricing and Availability

Echo Show 5 is available in Charcoal and Sandstone for €89.99. You can also choose to purchase a magnetic stand that lets you tilt the device to adjust the viewing and camera angles for €19.99. Both are available for pre-order today at and will start shipping to Ireland next month.
