Samsung has unveiled the latest version of its Galaxy smartphone series featuring an updated slim, cinematic form and stylus pen better suited to creating and editing content. Revealed last night at the Galaxy Unpacked event in New York City, the Samsung smartphone is the narrowest version of the Galaxy Note series.
Samsung has launched two different sizes of the Galaxy Note for Galaxy Note10 and Galaxy Note10+. The plus version weighs 196 grams with a 6.8-inch display – the biggest screen to-date – and the standard has a 6.3-inch screen and weighs 168 grams.
Each device features a cinematic infinity display that is almost bezel-less. Samsung describes it as its “best yet”.
The latest Galaxy Note10 design is “inspired by a generation that flows seamlessly between work and life” and is designed to allow people to “showcase their creative spirit, all on the go”.
It comes with an updated version of the stylus S pen, billed as “the heart of the Note experience”. The pen is designed to allow users to create with precision, with updates including a new six-axis motion sensor that more effectively tracks a user’s motion and acceleration.
“Galaxy Note10 re-imagines the promise for the modern Note fan who uses their smartphone to take their productivity and creativity to the next level, and who effortlessly flows between ideas and endeavours at a moment’s notice,” said Samsung president DJ Koh.
“Every element of Galaxy Note10 was designed to help users achieve more,” he said. “Whether they’re finishing a big project for work, capturing and editing a video, or playing their favourite mobile game, the Galaxy Note10 will help them do it faster and better.”
The pen, which is the same size for both device, has a new unibody design and builds on the Bluetooth capabilities introduced on the Galaxy Note9 with new “Air” actions. This technology allows users to play games or use their applications at a distance via gestures.
The front camera has been centred and reduced in size to create a more balanced look.
Other enhanced capabilities and new technologies include a handwriting-to-text option that allows one to jot down notes with the S pen, convert the handwriting to digital text in Samsung Notes, and then export it to formats such as Microsoft Word.
Text can also now be customised by shrinking or enlarging, and by changing the colour of notes.
The camera has also been upgraded with a “Live Focus Video” option to add depth-of-field adjustments. Other new features include a “Zoom-In Mic” that amplifies in-frame audio and a “Super steady” that stabilises footage and is now available in hyperlapse mode. (see stabilisation clip below)

Another major new element is a full editing suite for videos. Galaxy Note10 allows users to edit on-the-go on the device after recording. The S Pen can be used to make edits to videos, which can then be easily transferred to Adobe’s video editing-app Rush3.
Other camera features are a recorder that captures what is displayed on the screen. Users can also annotate the screen with the S Pen via augmented reality, called AR Doodle, for dynamic drawings, effects, and animations that track onto the image.
Galaxy Note10+’s DepthVision camera can take a scan of an object and instantly turn it into a movable 3D rendering, and a new “night mode” feature on the front camera lets you capture selfies and other pictures, no matter how dark the conditions.

The Galaxy Note10 (256gb RRP €969) and the Galaxy Note10+ (256gb RRP €1119) will be available in Aura Glow and Aura Black starting from 23rd August, via www.samsung.com/ie/ and selected partners.
The Galaxy Unpacked event took place today at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center arena. Samsung also launched the new Galaxy Watch Active2 and the Galaxy Book S laptop.
It was also revealed that Samsung and Microsoft have expanded their partnership to promote seamless work across multiple platforms and devices, including Microsoft’s Outlook app, Windows Virtual Desktop and app mirroring on any PC.
