OnePlus announce the OnePlus Nord via world first AR launch event
We all knew it was coming as OnePlus didn’t keep it a secret, but today OnePlus announced, during a world firs AR (Augmented Reality) launch, the full spec and price for their upcoming ‘flagship killer’, and return to their roots, the OnePlus Nord.
Some of you out there might be asking, ‘whats with the name’, well Nord means North in multiple languages and is something that OnePlus uses as everyone should have a ‘north star’ that should guide them and that’s what OnePlus said drove them to create the OnePlus Nord.
The AR launch was really cool, through your phones camera you could see the various videos floating in your own room. As the launched progressed the phone was revealed in full 3D and even exploded views of the internal components like the ones below.
The OnePlus Nord comes with a Snapdragon 765G, and in it’s base configuration 8gb of RAM and 128gb of storage, which is fantastic. The Snapdragon 765G might not be the flagship 800 series chipset, but you really shouldn’t notice any performance issues in most day to day situations. On top of that, the 765G is a 5G chipset so is ready for mobile networks of the future.
On the camera side of things, there’s a ‘quad’ camera setup on the rear. The main sensor is a 48mp Sony sensor (that can also be found in the OnePlus 8), this is flanked by an 8mp ultra-wide and 2pm macro sensor with a 5mp depth sensor. On the front is where things get even more interesting, the OnePlus Nord has a dual selfie camera setup. The main selfie is a 32mp wide sensor along with a 8mp ultra-wide sensor, that OnePlus says should do away with selfie sticks.
The screen is a 90hz amoled screen that should be buttery smooth and have inky blacks, and the whole things is powered by a 4115mAh battery that supports Warp Charge 30T and should be able to get you from 0% to 70% in 30 mins.
The OnePlus Nord will be available in 2 colours, Grey Onyx and Blue Marble.
Amazingly this entire package is classed as a ‘mid-range’ device (I don’t know how either, to be honest) and as such has a price this is going to be hard for most other manufactures to compete with. The entry level OnePlus Nord, with the above spec will retail for €399 euro when it goes on sale on the 4th of August in Europe. There will be a model above this that has 12gb of RAM and 256gb of storage, and should you need that extra ram and storage, it’ll still only set you back €499. OnePlus also too the chance today to also announce their fully wireless Bluetooth earbuds. These are similar in looks to the infamous Apple Airpods but come in at half the price at €89. They have 10 hours of charge between uses and can be topped up 3 times in the case, giving them a total of 30 hours of use. They also support Warp Charge so a 10 minute charge will give you 10 hours of playback. The buds will be available in white, grey and Nord Blue. The OnePlus buds will be released will at a future date and more info can be found here on: https://www.oneplus.com/ie/product/oneplus-buds
