PlayStation 5 launching in Ireland November 19th - Starting at €399.99
Sony has finally announced the official launch date and pricing for their two PlayStation 5 consoles at tonight’s showcase event. Launching November 19th 2020 in Ireland, the PS5 Digital Edition (no disc drive) will cost €399.99 with the disc drive model coming in at €499.99. That puts both top end next gen consoles, the ‘full fat’ PS5 and Xbox Series X, at the exact same price with the digital edition PS5 model costing €100 more than the all digital Xbox Series S’s €299.99 price point.
Now, to be clear, the Series S isn’t just a smaller version of the Xbox Series X with the disc drive removed, like the two PS5 models. Microsoft has reduced the SSD capacity by almost half to 512GB over the Series X’s 1TB along with reductions to the Series S’s RAM and GPU capabilities.
I know it’s slightly confusing if you’re trying to weight up your options but I guess that’s the whole point of these multiple model versions, it gives consumers the option to pick the console that best suits their needs or preferred price points.
On top of the official launch date and pricing announcement for both PS5 models, we also got a closer look at the new games coming to the PS5 including a more extensive look at some gameplay from Insomniac Games’ follow-on title to their hugely popular Spider-Man game from 2018.
