Anker is known for offering quality products at a great price. With the Anker PowerConf C300, the device manufacturer finally ventures into the webcams market. In our Anker PowerConf C300 Full HD webcam review, we reveal what the video cam can do in everyday use and whether it’s worth buying.

Design & Build Quality

The Anker PowerConf C300 is a webcam with solid yet minimalist design and a good microphone. There are also numerous setting options, thanks to the manufacturer’s own software, AnkerWork. Anyone who presents a lot and switches between desk and flipcharts will appreciate the AI-supported object tracking.

The focus of the webcam is clearly on business use, not least due to the wide recording angle but for every day use, the camera still holds up well for more general and informal use, thanks to it’s clear video quality and HDR functionality.

The design and finish of the Anker PowerConf C300 is of high quality. The camera offers a native Full HD resolution (1080p) with up to 60 frames per second. The camera is also mounted on a monitor clip that’s fully rotatable which is handy for more awkwardly positioned displays. The clip can also be used as a stand, which is handy if you can’t find a good mounting bracket on the monitor. The surfaces on which the fastening clip sits on the housing are rubberized, which protects against scratches and the camera sliding around too much.

Anker PowerConf C300 Webcam | TheEffect.NetIn addition, the Anker PowerConf C300 has a tripod thread. Professional users who use the webcam for webinars or if the cam is to be used in meeting rooms can use their own tripod to get the perfect angle and position. An LED next to the webcam lens indicates when the camera is active, so the speakers in front of the lens always know if they are currently being streamed.

Set Up & Performance

Once connected, the Anker PowerConf C300 webcam automatically adjusts itself to the user or objects in front of the camera thanks to autofocus. The object focus is an advantage in product presentations, for example, if you want to show details. In the test, the autofocus worked very quickly and without any delay worth mentioning – an important detail for business use. You can switch between solo and auto frames in the software also with Auto-Frame allowing the camera to ensure it’s using the widest possible angle for larger group calls to ensure everyone is in shot. In the solo frame mode, the camera focuses on the central person in front of the lens.

Anker PowerConf C300 Webcam | TheEffect.NetUsers can also manually set the recording angle in the AnkerWork webcam software with 78, 90 and 115 degrees available. The wide-angle formats accommodate 16:9 screens, but always show a lot of space to the right and left of the person in front of the camera. In face-to-face conversations, the “Landscape” mode works well. Other settings that can be made in the Anker software are resolution and refresh rate. In the case of poor internet connections, lowering the video resolution can help in keeping the video steady.

Anker PowerConf C300 Webcam | TheEffect.NetVideo & Audio Quality

Overall, we found the video quality to be a marked improvement over our own laptop’s built in webcam, which isn’t surprising but the use of HDR and the ultra wide angle lens really gave us much better results along with the additional options and settings found in the dedicated app. Brighter areas behind us on certain calls were well managed thanks to the HDR and the option for 60fps mode allowed for a more natural video call with twice the refresh rate of other built in webcams.

Anker PowerConf C300 Webcam | TheEffect.NetThe audio quality of the Anker PowerConf C300 was also very impressive with surprisingly good microphones. We feel this quality on the audio front stems from the company’s experience with its Soundcore audio devices. For the PowerConf C300, Anker has equipped the webcam with a dual microphone and active noise isolation. This reduces annoying background noise so that the person in front of the camera can always be heard clearly in the test, even if there was street noise from passing cars in front of the window.

Other special features of the Anker PowerConf C300 webcam are:

  • USB adapter: Anker supplies the PowerConf C300 webcam with a USB-C to USB-A adapter meaning the camera can be connected to the USB-C ports of more modern notebooks and conventional USB-A connections.
  • Lens slide protection: A protective slide, which is included in the box can be stuck over the lens of the Anker PowerConf C300 Full HD webcam, ensuring extra privacy.
  • AnkerWork Software: Anker offers its own camera software for the PowerConf C300.
  • HDR function: The HDR function tries to balance the different brightness areas in the picture and to increase contrast. It is also enabled in the Anker Webcam Software. However, the HDR mode does not support the 60 fps refresh rate.
  • Object tracking: Anker PowerConf C300 supports AI-assisted object tracking. This is of particular benefit to presenters who, for example, turn to a flip chart for presentations and ensures that you, the presenter are always in shot.
