At their now annual ‘INNO DAY’ event, Chinese manufacturer OPPO has just unveiled their latest folding/flipping smartphones in the form of the new OPPO Find N2 and OPPO Find N2 Flip – both of which can be seen as direct competition for Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold4 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4.
Let’s get the bad news out of the way right away, like its predecessor, the new Find N2 has only been given a China launch. However, OPPO has confirmed that Find N2 Flip will be launched overseas – including most countries in Europe – in the first quarter of 2023. So sometime between January and March 2023.
OPPO Find N2 Flip Specs
As for the specs, we’ll start with the OPPO Find N2 Flip because this will be the handset you might actually be able to pick up in the coming months. It’s a clamshell foldable, just like the Galaxy Z Flip4, with some nice USPs of its own.
The highlight is the largest flip-style cover screen of any foldable phone to date, (3.62” 60Hz OLED panel, 382 x 720px) which has the potential to make the OPPO Find N2 Flip far more useful when folded than most clamshell foldables.
OPPO claims you can view up to six notifications at once on this display and also use it to preview photos taken by the phone’s ‘flagship’ cameras.
The 120Hz internal AMOLED panel measures 6.8” when unfolded. This is a high refresh rate LTPO display, 1-120Hz, with HDR10+ support and 97% DCI-P3 coverage, plus it is extra bright, reaching up to 1,600 nits.
The Find N2 Flip also packs a 4,300mAh battery that OPPO claims will last ‘all day’. It packs the powerful MediaTek Dimensity 9000 Plus chipset at its heart and what appears to be an ‘almost invisible’ fold; we will believe it when we (don’t) see it.
The camera arrangement includes a 50MP main module and an 8MP ultrawide unit. There is no telephoto lens on board, which is typical for flip phones. There is a 32MP selfie camera on the internal display ( or you could use the main camera thanks to the large cover display.
OPPO Find N2 Specs
The OPPO Find N2 is a larger foldable device along the lines of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4. It features a 7.1″ AMOLED foldable main display with a resolution of 1792 x 1920 and supports the same 120hz refresh rate.
There’s also an external 5.54″ AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2120 and a similar 120hz refresh rate. The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset with up to 16GB of RAM.
There’s up to 512GB of storage, a 4,520mAh battery with 67W charging, 5G support and a triple-lens camera, a 50MP f/1.8 main sensor, a 48MP 1 : 2.2 ultra-wide angle and a 32 MP f/2.0 telephoto lens. There are also two 32MP selfie cameras, and the OPPO Find N2 runs Android 13 with Oppo’s ColorOS 13 interface.
It’s clad in tough Gorilla Glass Victus on both the front and back (in white and green), while the back of the black model is clad in vegan leather instead. It also weighs just 233g in black or 237g in the other shades, making it lighter than the 240g iPhone 14 Pro Max, although this phone isn’t foldable.
As we said at the start, there’s no confirmation on whether this particular folding phone will make its way outside of China but we’d love to see similar competition for Samsung’s Z Fold4 like the N2 Flip is bringing to the Z Flip4.
