At Google’s annual I/O event in San Francisco, the company officially unveiled everything there is to know about their newest additions to the Pixel line. We finally got a full reveal of the much rumoured (and pre-announced) Google Pixel Fold, seen as a direct competitor to Samsung’s Fold devices, along with the new Pixel Tablet and Pixel 7a. Below are the key specs and availability details for each device with our full review of the Pixel 7a coming very soon.
Google Pixel Fold
Now that the Pixel Fold has been officially unveiled, here are all the key specs on the newest foldable device to enter the smartphone market, which Google claims to be the thinnest yet:
- External Display: FHD+ 5.8″ 120hz OLED Gorilla Glass Victus display with a 17.4:9 aspect ratio
- Inner display: FHD+ 7.6″ 120hz OLED with 6:5 aspect ratio
- Processor: Tensor G2
- RAM: 12GB
- Storage: 256GB / 512GB
- Cameras: 48MP main sensor + 10.8MP Ultra-Wide sensor + 10.8MP 5x telephoto sensor
- External selfie camera: 9.5MP
- Inner selfie camera: 8MP
- Features: Wireless charging & side-mounted fingerprint sensor
Some of the key hardware and software features on the device include a 180 degree ‘fluid friction’ hinge which allows you to position the device’s folding screen at any angle you like for hands-free selfie opps and impromptu ‘Night Sight astrophotography’ shots.
Speaking of cameras, the front facing selfie camera supports face unlock and the rear camera array is capable of 20x ‘Super Res Zoom’, thanks to the 5x telephoto lens. Like other foldables on the market, you can use the Fold’s external cameras for selfie shots, giving users the best selfies on a Pixel yet.
Over 50 of Google’s own apps, like YouTube and Meet, have been optimised to work in a variety of screen orientations and layouts along with other media apps including Netflix.
Google Pixel Fold Pricing & Availability
The Google Pixel Fold will be available for pre-order today with a starting price of €1899 and will be available initially in the US, UK, Germany and Japan in Porcelain (white) or Obsidian (black) on June 27th with Irish availability TBC.
Google Pixel Tablet
The Pixel Tablet was also fully unveiled at this evening’s event after being teased at last year’s I/O event. Google’s first official tablet in the Pixel line, the device can be seen as a sort of hybrid device. One that can be used as a standalone tablet and one that, when mounted on the charging dock speaker, a large Google Home/Nest Hub display.
In this particular ‘Hub mode’, users can expect the usual Nest Hub features such as digital photo frame, Google Home control panel and hands-free Google Assistant support. Google also claimed that, once docked, users can expect a ‘4x’ improvement to bass levels when listening to music or watching video content, compared to the tablet’s own built speakers.
For the tablet part itself, below are some of the key specs:
- Display: 11″ 2560 x 1600 LCD panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio, pixel density of 276 PPI and 500 nits of brightness.
- Processor: Tensor G2
- RAM: 8GB
- Storage: 128GB
- Cameras: 8MP front facing camera + 8MP rear facing camera
- Features: Fingerprint sensor built into power button, 4 speaker audio output
Like the Fold above, Google is working to make as many of their own apps work better on larger tablet displays and mentioned an improved WhatsApp experience making its way to large screen Android tablets in the future.
Google also showed off a new custom case they’ve designed for the tablet which allows users to pop out a rear metallic ‘ring’ on the back of the cover to prop the device up but it also still allows for the device to be mounted and charged on the charging dock.
Google Pixel Tablet Pricing & Availability
The Google Pixel Tablet will initially launch in the US, UK, Germany and Japan on June 20th, with pre-orders starting today and pricing starting at €679 for the tablet + charging dock, €149 for the charging dock on its own and €99 for the custom Google case.
Google did state they are working with third-party manufacturers to produce a number of ‘Made for Google’ covers etc. for the tablet.
Google Pixel 7a
Finally, rounding out the new Pixel devices unveiled at this year’s I/O is the Pixel 7a. The ‘entry’ level device in the Pixel 7 line but one which still packs some impressive specs for its price point. Here are some of the key specs below:
- Display: 6.1″ FHD+ 90hz HDR OLED panel
- Processor: Tensor G2
- RAM: 8GB
- Storage: 128GB
- Cameras: 64MP main sensor + 13MP ultra-wide sensor with 120 degree field of view + 13MP Selfie camera with 95 degree field of view
- Battery Size: 4385mAh
- Features: Under display fingerprint sensor, face unlock
Packing the same Tensor G2 sensor as its bigger brothers, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, the Pixel 7a is capable of 2x faster ‘night sight’ capabilities along with ‘Super Res Zoom’ up to 8x. Users can also expect some of the Pixel lines standout photo editing features including ‘Magic Eraser’ and ‘Photo Unblur’.
Google Pixel 7a Pricing & Availability
The Google Pixel 7a is available from today on the Irish Google Store for €509 and is available in Charcoal (black – pictured below), Snow (white), Sea (pale blue) and Coral (orange/pink)
