Samsung’s Galaxy S24 flagship smartphone line-up, which has just been unveiled at their first Unpacked event of the year, marks a significant shift in the company’s approach to artificial intelligence (AI). The new devices introduce a range of AI-powered features designed to enhance user experience and address the diminishing excitement surrounding smartphone upgrades.
At the heart of Samsung’s AI strategy lies “on-demand” AI, enabling AI tasks to be processed directly on the device rather than relying on cloud infrastructure. This shift in focus aims to improve performance, reduce latency, and protect user privacy.
One of the key AI features on the Galaxy S24 series is object recognition. Users can now point their camera at an object, take a picture, or select an object in an existing image, and the phone will instantly identify and search for relevant information about that object. This feature proves particularly useful for identifying landmarks, products, or even clothing items, providing users with instant access to online reviews, prices, or purchase options.
Another innovative AI feature is AI-powered image editing. The Galaxy S24 series’ AI tools can automatically remove reflections from photos, enhance image quality, and even edit out unwanted elements, such as photobombers or distracting backgrounds. This level of AI-assisted editing empowers users to create professional-looking images without the need for dedicated photo editing software.
The Galaxy S24 series’ also introduces live transcription, a feature that transcribes real-time conversations, making it ideal for multilingual users or for those who need to capture important information from conversations. The AI transcriber assigns labels to each speaker, allowing users to easily identify who said what.
Furthermore, the Galaxy S24 series AI capabilities extend to productivity and accessibility. The phone can automatically translate text from one language to another, providing real-time language support for international travellers or multilingual professionals. Additionally, the AI can recognise and respond to voice commands, making the phone accessible to users with limited mobility or visual impairments.
Samsung’s focus on on-demand AI and its integration into a range of practical features sets the Galaxy S24 series apart from its competitors. By addressing the declining enthusiasm for smartphone upgrades, Samsung aims to reignite consumer interest and establish the Galaxy S24 line as a leading range of devices that not only delivers enhanced performance but also empowers users with intelligent features that enhance their daily lives.
