In the realm of portable speakers, the JBL Boombox 3 Wi-Fi stands tall, both literally and metaphorically. With its robust design, impressive sound quality, seamless app connectivity, and extended battery life, it sets a high standard for portable audio devices. Let’s delve deeper into its features and performance across each of these areas.

Design & Build Quality

The Boombox 3 Wi-Fi boasts a design that offers both durability and style. Its rugged build makes it suitable for outdoor adventures, while its sleek contours add a touch of modernity.

The speaker is IPX7 rated, ensuring it can withstand splashes, rain, and even brief submersion in water, making it an ideal companion for pool parties or a day out at the beach.

The large handle not only enhances its portability but also adds to its aesthetic appeal. Meanwhile, the control buttons are intuitively placed, allowing for easy navigation of settings and playback controls. There’s also a ‘heart’ shaped button for a feature called ‘Moment’, which allows you to assign your favourite playlist/track to this single, dedicated button. Unfortunately, Spotify isn’t one of the supported music services but hopefully they can be added in the future.

Overall, the Boombox 3’s design strikes a harmonious balance between functionality and aesthetics, catering to both indoor and outdoor environments.

Sound Quality

Where the Boombox 3 Wi-Fi truly shines is in its sound performance. Equipped with dual woofers and tweeters, it delivers a powerful audio experience with rich bass, crisp highs, and detailed mids. Whether you’re blasting your favourite tracks at a party or enjoying a quiet evening indoors, the Boombox 3 Wi-Fi fills the room with immersive sound that never fails to impress.

What’s remarkable is the speaker’s ability to maintain clarity and balance even at high volumes, ensuring distortion-free audio playback.

Add to that its Dolby Atmos support and, as labelled in its name, Wi-Fi connectivity, the audio quality, when streaming over Wi-Fi with Dolby Atmos content, is extremely impressive, especially given this is a portable device at the end of the day.

Tidal’s Atmos-mixed track and album selection is pretty vast and tracks such as Bad Bunny’s ‘Monaco’ sound impressively broad and immersive coming from the Boombox 3 Wi-Fi.

While we did hit a few stumbling blocks actually getting our device connected to our home Wi-Fi network (I don’t think the app (more below) or the device itself liked our Google Nest Wi-Fi network for some reason) once connected to our our broadband provider router, things worked fine from then on in.

The device also supports auto room tuning technology thanks to on-board microphones so no matter where its placed, it will auto-adjust its audio output to give listeners the best possible experience.

App Connectivity

The integration of the JBL One app enhances the user experience by providing convenient control over various settings and features. Through the app, users can customize EQ settings, adjust volume levels, and even sync multiple speakers effortlessly. The intuitive interface makes navigation a breeze, allowing users to personalise their audio experience according to their preferences.

The app also allows users to carry out firmware updates, ensuring that the speaker remains up-to-date with the latest enhancements and improvements.

Now, we will admit, there where one or two times when things didn’t go perfectly to plan with audio playback control functionality having a hiccup now and again with us having to restart the app the gain back control, hopefully this is something that can be remedied in a future update.

Battery Life

One of the standout features of the Boombox 3 Wi-Fi is its impressive battery life. With a massive built-in battery, it offers up to 24 hours of continuous playback on a single charge, ensuring uninterrupted music enjoyment throughout the day and night. This extended battery life makes it an ideal choice for outdoor adventures, parties, or even as a reliable audio companion during travel.

The ability to charge external devices via the speaker’s USB port further adds to its versatility, making it a practical solution for keeping your gadgets powered on the go. Given its sheer size and battery capacity, you won’t be able to charge the device via USB Type-C so you’ll need to ensure you pack the included larger power cable if you device to take the speaker with you for travelling.

The JBL Boombox 3 Wi-Fi definitely packs some impressive sound performance, robust build quality, seamless (for the most part) app connectivity, and extended battery life. With its blend of style, functionality, and performance, it undoubtedly stands as a top contender in the realm of powerful portable audio devices.
