The newly launched eir Wide-Fi system, powered by WiFi 7 technology, promises to deliver faster speeds and more stable connections throughout the home. It’s a clear step forward from the previous WiFi 6 standard, offering speeds up to twice as fast and supporting up to 200 devices simultaneously.

The router operates on a tri-band system across the 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz frequencies, delivering a cumulative wireless speed of up to 18Gbps. It’s also designed to help eliminate dead zones and maintain stable connections throughout larger homes.

Pricing for the eir WiFi 7 compatible router starts at €49.99 per month at launch. Customers who opt for the 2Gb broadband plan bundled with eir WiFi 7 will also be automatically upgraded to 5Gb speeds when those become available in June, at no extra cost.

eir WiFi 7 Launch | TheEffect.Neteir’s decision to roll out WiFi 7 technology aligns with the increasing demand for faster broadband speeds. The company reports a 40% year-on-year increase in fibre-to-the-home usage. To support this, eir plans to roll out 2Gb speeds across its entire fibre network, with 5Gb upgrades expected in mid-2025.

Commenting on the launch, eir CEO Oliver Loomes said the rollout of WiFi 7 forms part of a broader €1.7 billion infrastructure investment. Their goal is to extend fibre access to 1.9 million premises across Ireland, covering 84% of the country.

Android Powered eir TV

Alongside its WiFi 7 announcement, eir has launched a new Android-powered eir TV Box. Priced at €14.99 per month, the new offering integrates live TV channels, on-demand apps, and major streaming platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video, which is included at no extra cost.
