Sony has announced three additions to its wireless headphone lineup, covering the premium, mid-range and entry-level tiers. The headline model is the WH-1000XM4C, a reworked version of the well-regarded WH-1000XM4 with updated sound tuning and new colours.

Alongside it, the WH-CH730N and WH-CH530 bring refreshed designs and longer battery life to Sony’s more affordable ranges. All three are set to go on sale in Ireland from September 2026.

WH-1000XM4C

The WH-1000XM4C is built on the foundations of the WH-1000XM4, a headphone that’s remained popular since its 2020 launch thanks to its noise cancelling and comfort. Sony hasn’t reinvented the design here. Instead it’s updated the sound tuning to suit current listening tastes, added a 10-band equaliser for more granular EQ control, and introduced a new Lavender colourway alongside the existing Black and Platinum Silver options.

Given the WH-1000XM4’s age, this is best read as a way for Sony to keep a proven design on shelves at a more accessible price than its newer flagships, rather than a genuine step up in performance. The foldable design and over-ear fit carry over unchanged, which will suit anyone who already knows the original and just wants updated tuning and a fresh colour.

WH-CH730N

The WH-CH730N sits in Sony’s mid-range and succeeds the WH-CH720N. It keeps active noise cancellation via Dual Noise Sensor technology, and adds a lightweight, foldable design that wasn’t available on the outgoing model.

Battery life is rated at up to 50 hours with noise cancellation switched on, and a 3-minute quick charge is said to provide an hour of playback.

Call quality gets a boost too, with Precise Voice Pickup Technology combining beamforming microphones and AI-based noise reduction.

It’s available in Black, White, Pink, Blue and a new Beige option, and supports LE Audio, Multipoint connection and Fast Pair/Swift Pair for easier day-to-day use.

WH-CH530

The WH-CH530 is Sony’s entry point into wireless headphones, aimed at first-time buyers, students and anyone who wants dependable everyday listening without spending much.

It comes in six colours, including new Cobalt, Coral and Mint options alongside Pink, White and Black.

Battery life is rated at up to 55 hours, with a 3-minute quick charge giving 1.5 hours of playback. There’s no active noise cancellation here, but AI noise reduction on calls should help for online lessons and meetings, and a 5-step maximum volume control is a sensible inclusion for anyone concerned about hearing protection.

None of these three headphones are trying to be class leaders. The WH-1000XM4C leans on a design Irish buyers already trust, the WH-CH730N brings ANC down to a more accessible price with genuine quality-of-life improvements over its predecessor, and the WH-CH530 covers the basics reliably for very little outlay.

Between them, Sony now has a clear, well-spaced lineup from budget to premium, and each model looks like a sensible upgrade over what it replaces rather than a dramatic reinvention.
